Fjallraven Materials
G-1000®
G-1000® is a classic in Fjällräven’s clothes. The densely woven fabric is a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton, making the material windproof and extremely hardwearing. It is also water resistant thanks to impregnation. You can improve the impregnation if required by using Fjällräven’s environmentally friendly Greenland Wax. The high-strength fabric wicks moisture effectively away from the body and is ideal for an active outdoor life. You will find our G-1000® products in our Trekking line.
Windproof
The tightly spun weave in G-1000® makes it virtually windproof. The added impregnation provides complete protection against the biting wind - and even against biting mosquitoes, which find it hard to penetrate the fabric.
Hardwearing G-1000® is highly resistant to wear. More than twice as hardwearing as denim. Combined with its low weight, this makes G-1000® garments ideal for traveling and outdoor life.
Water Resistant
Greenland Wax impregnation makes G-1000® garments very resistant to rain and moisture. This means that you can wear your garments during brief showers and, even if the fabric does get wet, it will dry quickly.
UV Protection
The hard woven fabric provides almost 100% protection from the sun's alpha and beta rays.
Mosquito Proof G-1000® is also 'mosquito proof'
G-1000 SC
G-1000® SC (Super Comfort) is an evolution of G-1000®. It has a softer surface that is pre washed and has no impregnation.
Hardweaing G-1000® is highly resistant to wear. More than twice as hardwearing as denim. Combined with its low weight, this makes G-1000® garments ideal for traveling and outdoor life.

MT
MT - Perfect For Travelling A mixture of micropolyamide and combed cotton with a brushed outer finish that combines the low weight and strength of polyamide fiber with the wonderful feel of cotton. It is UV resistant, water resistant and does not wrinkle. This makes it an ideal fabric for our travel line. The advantage of using polyamide microfibers is that the material can be woven more tightly to achieve UV protection and a slight degree of water resistance.
Quick-drying MT products have extremely good breathability, which guarantees your clothes will stay dry and you will remain cool. The product dries approximately three times faster than comparable cotton products.
Lightweight MT products are extremely resistant to UV rays. They block almost all dangerous UV radiation. Their protection is twice as strong as a comparable cotton product.
UV Protection MT products are extremely resistant to UV rays. They block almost all dangerous UV radiation. Their protection is twice as strong as a comparable cotton product.
Stormblocker
A windproof membrane that also lets bodily moisture through. Ideal for sweaty activities when you need complete wind protection. Stormblocker is water resistant and prevents you from getting wet during short periods of rain.
Flexible Stormblocker gives you flexible, versatile garments for a wide range of activities.
Hydratic
Waterproof and windproof Waterproof and windproof garments in Hydratic® let bodily moisture escape, making it less likely that you will become unpleasantly sweaty. This is described as diffusing, i.e. that they keep rain and water out but release the evaporating moisture from the body. A somewhat more simplified word is that the garments breath, or are breathable. Hydratic®, which comes as a coating, laminate or loose membrane, is combined with the fabrics and provides different levels of waterproofness and breathability depending on the combination. Our Hydratic®products are primarily found in the Trekking and Forest lines.
Waterproofness Waterproofness is measured in water columns, i.e. the pressure a fabric can withstand before it starts to leak. The higher the water column, the more pressure the fabric can take. In purely technical terms, products that can withstand a column of water 1,000 millimeters high is regarded as waterproof, although higher pressures may arise if you kneel on wet ground. Garments with Hydratic® can withstand a column of 5,000 to 20,000 millimeters.
Breathability Breathability is measured in the number of grams of water a square meter of fabric lets through in 24 hours. Hydratic® lets out between 3,000 and 15,000 grams. The higher the figure, the more moisture is lets out.
Hydratic IQ
The most advanced Hydratic® fabric has a very special ability to adapt its properties to the situation.
Hydratic® IQ reacts to heat, e.g. body heat, when you are active and releases more moisture when the fabric is above 0° C. Below this temperature, the fabric releases less moisture and warmth, which allows the body to keep the heat it has generated and needs when it is cold.
It is the molecule structure that changes depending on temperature. It opens when warmer and closes when going colder. In temperatures below 0° C, polymer molecules build a homogenous surface that prevents body heat from escaping through the material.
In temperatures above 0° C, the structure of polymer molecules changes so that warmth and moisture can pass through the material. This means that the wearer will not become as sweaty and warm.
Lycra
An elastic synthetic material by DuPont. It is a polyurethane material made up of hard and soft segments, and can be stretched to between four and seven times its own length yet still return to its original shape. Even a 2% content of Lycra adds elastic characteristics.
Cotton
Natural cotton fabric offers an unsurpassed sensation against the skin. Although it dries slowly and is relatively heavy, it does have a natural place in any clothing collection. Pure cotton garments are primarily for easy-going activities and for use in hot climates. Fjällräven uses only the highest quality long-fiber cotton.
Down
High-quality, down padded products provide unsurpassed insulation in relation to their low weight. Down can also be compressed to take up as little space as possible.
The down padding in our products is in fact a mixture of down and feathers: 97/3 means the padding is 97% down and 3% feathers. The higher the percentage of down, the better the quality and insulation.
The down's ability to swell and fill the channels in, for example, a sleeping bag is measured in CUIN (cubic inches per ounce) but is also known as fill power. A higher CUIN value means better insulation, i.e. a better ability to bind air. A value of 700+ states the minimum value, but the actual quality is often higher.
Comfort Fleece
A top quality polyester feece that keeps the wearer warm and dry thanks to excellent moisture transportation and air pockets. The material has a high warmth to weight ratio and will keep its shape and not pill even after repeated machine laundering. Thanks to moisture transportation and wind penetrability, Comfort Fleece is also ideal for activities where you want the cooling effect of the wind.
Supreme Micro Loft
The synthetic fibers in Supreme Micro Loft material have been developed in cooperation with Fjällräven and are one of the best synthetic fibers that exist today. The combination of thin and slightly thicker silicon-treated microfibers fills the garment or sleeping bag with air, which in turn provides insulation. The principle is the same as with down padded products. Thanks to an ability to retain their shape even after long-term use, the synthetic fibers are an excellent alternative to down. The synthetic fibers also withstand moisture better and retain their thermal properties even after getting damp.
Active Wool
This mixture of merino wool and synthetic fibers produces garments with superlative thermal and moisture transportation qualities. Active Wool makes the garment virtually odor free even after several days of use. The wool provides warmth even when the garment is damp. This is because the natural curve of wool fibers creates millions of tiny air pockets that trap the body heat. The synthetic fibers make the garment more resistant to wear while also allowing for faster wicking of moisture from the skin and enabling the garment to dry quicker.
Bamboo
Bamboo fibre is naturally anti-bacterial, highly breathable and environmentally friendly. The feel of bamboo is soft and comfortable.
Breathable Due to the construction of the bamboo fiber, the garment is more breathable, comfortable and thermal egulating than most other comparable fibers. It keeps you cool, dry and comfortable all day long.
Anti-bacteria The anti-bacterial element in bamboo fiber keeps bacteria away from the textile and provides a natural anti odor function.
Environmentally Friendly The use of bamboo is not damaging to our ecosystem because it does not require chemical pesticides or fertilizers. It is also hypoallergenic and totally organic.
CT Comfort Travel
Comfort Travel keeps you dry and comfortable in warm and humid climates thanks to active moisture-wicking and good breathability. It is the perfect travel companion since the fabric is easy to care for and does not wrinkle. Comfort Travel is the perfect multi-functional travel fabric
Cordura
A very light, very strong nylon material by DuPont.
Cordura® is three times stronger than normal nylon and seven times stronger than cotton, which is why it is used as a reinforcement in clothes and backpacks.
Cordura® is moisture and mold resistant.
Nano-Pel
Fabrics treated with Nano-Pel have a liquid and dirt-repellent surface that is highly breathable. The garments stay clean and dry, and are perfect for traveling or for long spells in the great outdoors. Polartec® Classic 200 The lightest fleece from Polartec® is perfect as a first layer or a light outer sweater. Warm in relation to its weight, and with excellent moisture transportation. Thanks to its high quality and durability, this fleece will withstand many years of use.
Polartec® Power Shield
Polartec® Power Shield is a combination of many different materials. A durable outer shell guarantees that the garments can withstand some seriously rough treatment. A water repellent surface combined with a membrane keeps the wind, light rain and snow out. The soft, brushed inside adds a degree of insulation, and the entire laminated fabric has a supple elasticity. It also lets moisture through, making it ideal for sweaty activities during the cold months.
Polartec® Thermal Pro A fleece that keeps you warm and comfortable in a wide variety of weather conditions. The densely woven construction of 100% polyester microfibers dries quickly. This durable, non-pilling material will retain its insulating properties even after repeated machine laundering.
Travel Dry Tech
TDT is a high-tech and functional material that works exceptionally well in warm and humid climates. Its active drying technology stands for a highly effective way of moisture movement. The fabric will actively dry quicker by spreading the moisture on to a large surface. This ensures your body to keep a comfortable temperature. Moisture and water will actively spread over as a large surface as possible, and therfore evaporate extremely fast. This facilitates maximum performance for the user in any activity or climate. TDT products are UV resistant and they block almost all various UV radiation. They provide approximately twice the protection as a comparable cotton product. TDT is a very lightweight fibre. It is much lighter than a comparable cotton fibre with still the same durability.
Vinylon F
Vinylon F is the functional fabric that has made Kånken daypacks seemingly immortal for the last 25 years. While being a synthetic fiber, Vinylon F still has many of the positive properties of natural fibers. Fabrics conventionally used for backpacks need a coating in order to become water resistant. However functional initially, this coating loses its properties over time, making the backpack less waterproof. Vinylon F does not need a coating. Absorbing moisture better than any other synthetic fiber. Vinylon F swells like a natural fiber, thus making the weave more dense when it's raining. This gives the fabric waterproof qualities by construction eliminating the need for a coating. It's both light and extremely durable, making Vinylon F an unbeatable material.
The fabric will continue to prove its durable functionality year after year. Vinylon F has a ratio in the combination of being light and extremely durable that is unbeatable by any more modern material. The weight is 145 g/m2 which compares to most modern very light materials used in backpacks but these materials can only survive and deliver half the result in hard durability tests.
