Shooting on the Saltmarsh

After a recent increase in sales of the Grub's Stalker Boots, I thought I would treat myself to a pair to see what all the fuss is about.
Normally I am very particular about wellingtons and have always stuck with Le Chameau Chasseur leather lined boot.
On first look, the Stalker is unusual with a distinct shape and different material make up from standard models on the market.
My first impression was how light this boot is. I thought I would put it through its paces for an evening duck flight on my local saltmarsh.
The boot slips on with ease and the foot and ankle are extremely well supported. As I trudged out over marshland and then finally onto the saltmarsh, loaded down with my Westley Richards 8 bore, a dozen decoy ducks and a full cartridge belt, I noticed how easy the boot moves especially when sinking into mud up to my ankles.
When arriving at my chosen spot, I set out my decoys with water up to the top of the boot. No water seeped through any of the seams and the boots kept my feet completely dry. The Vibram sole offers that extra grip where other boots tend to be less assured.
The flight was not successful on this occassion. No shots fired but the Grub's Stalker was certainly put through its paces. On arriving home, I simply hosed down the boots.
I think I am a convert now. Grub's Stalker certainly live up to their rugged reputation and looks. Who knows, we may yet see Kate Moss wearing Grub's Stalker boots..!
